FOUNDATONS

7 weeks. 12 modules. 3 live sessions.

The foundation everything else gets built on.

Styling is the difference between ordinary and extraordinary.

And it's the thing almost none of us get to actually practice. These techniques aren't part of your everyday behind the chair — the business always comes first, the column's full, and there's just no time left over to learn the stuff that would change everything.

Editorial FOUNDATIONS gives you that time back.

Over 7 weeks I'm going to teach you the foundations editorial hair is built on. Not trends. Not whatever's hot this month. The real building blocks — the ones that let you create anything, for the rest of your career.

Here's what I believe, all the way down: creativity is innate. You already have it. It's our minds — and what we don't know yet — that hold us back. Every technique you learn is another card in your deck. And the more cards you're holding, the more freedom you have to create.

What is Editorial Hair, anyway:

Editorial hair tells a story. It's intentional, architectural, unforgettable — hair that's meant to be seen, photographed, remembered.

But here's the part nobody says out loud: the skills that make great editorial hair make everything else better too. Your bridal work. Your blowouts. Your color placement. Because editorial forces you to actually understand hair — how to re-texture it, shape it, mold it, get it to stay exactly where you put it, make it look shiny and fluid and alive.

Styling is usually the last thing we think about. It has to be the first thing you master.

3 Live Sessions

90 minutes each. Small enough that you'll actually get your questions answered.

  • Monday, September 14
  • Monday, October 5
  • Monday, November 2

10am PST · 11am MST · 12pm CST · 1pm EST

This is where we take what you've been building in the modules and push it into modern editorial territory — current, fashion-forward, alive.

We get into WHY hair behaves the way it does, and how to use that to make anything you want. Editorial, bridal, fashion, award-winning collections. It all comes from the same place.

Who this is for:

This is for the artist who wants to get into editorial work and learn the finishing skills that set you free — in editorial work and every client that leaves your chair.

These techniques are the foundation of editorial hair, from the simplest look all the way to full-blown avant garde. Everything gets built on them.

You already have the talent. This is where you get the tools to match it.

About Ruth

Ruth Roche has spent 43 years completely obsessed with hair — and she's still at it. A working editorial artist and 7-time NAHA winner — the industry's highest honor — she built and ran a salon and academy in New York City, has served as Artistic Director for Trevor Sorbie, Pureology, and Redken, and has taught everywhere from stages of 10,000 to rooms full of brand-new cosmetology students.

But ask her why she teaches, and none of that comes up:

"I teach because of the moment when an artist realizes they can create anything — that everything they need is already inside them. I've watched it happen hundreds of times, and it never gets old. That's it. That's the whole reason." — Ruth
